Review as Paid member

User story

As a paid member, I want to search the content and people available to my role so I can find content, people, groups, places, topics, and events together.

Draft requirements for review · Updated 2026-10-19

What the app should do

  • Search the same published story, person, organization, place and event catalog used by public directories. Return canonical IDs/links and permitted excerpts only; no private/draft or protected member bodies.
  • Search across content, people, groups, places and events.
  • Let the user narrow results by relevant object type.
  • Show why a result is related to the query and open its native destination.
  • Handle no results clearly; the Visitor result set must respect public visibility.
  • The earlier Done Search slice covers its recorded existing result types. New organization results, category filters and public organization destinations are Planned under D083; complete public person destinations remain in D013. Do not infer completion of either extension from this status.

What to check in the demo

Follow these steps from the role’s landing page through navigation and feature checks.

Review asStart here: Home

Begin on the paid Member Home. Use the Paid member demo role or Casey Bennett in Try a demo account, then select Member in the account/workspace menu if necessary. This creates a genuine local session with a seeded no-charge test membership; it does not upgrade a different account.

Navigation from sign-in

  1. 01Open the fictional Paid member account through the connected sign-in service. Seeded Home review opens directly. Real HOL staff access and protected actions require an authenticator check.
  2. 02From this role’s Home select Search Backcountry in the header. The feature starts at the search field and result-type filters.

Feature checks start here

Search

Public-content reads are available for dev review; full story acceptance and stakeholder approval remain separate. Navigation and feature checks can be reviewed in the current demo.

  1. 03Search Northern Vermont, then choose the People, Organizations, Places and Events result filters. Open a result and return with browser Back.
  2. 04Search Maya Hart and open the matching public person; search North Ridge Outfitters and open the organization. Both result types now have real native detail destinations.
  3. 05Enter a nonsense query and check the empty state, then clear it. Protected editorial results must retain their own membership gate when opened.

Backend work for this feature

Backend development authorized · Dev only

What needs to be supported

  • Selected authorization is the public read/content-seeding slice only. Existing write, participation, editorial management, event operations, gift redemption, payment and delivery requirements below are separate later work unless already authorized elsewhere.
  • Search the same published story, person, organization, place and event catalog used by public directories. Return canonical IDs/links and permitted excerpts only; no private/draft or protected member bodies.
  • When implementing the Planned D083 extension, index only approved published organization fields and stable IDs; keep private partner contacts, drafts and internal commercial labels out of Search.

How to verify in dev

  1. Verify published-only anonymous projection, no private/protected payload, stable IDs and links, missing/unpublished records, empty/loading/error UI, and no silent static fallback. Idempotent seed rerun preserves edited records; authenticated/dummy Home entry remains unchanged.
  2. Search signed out across the existing entity types, follow results and check an empty query result and unavailable-item handling.
  3. For the future organization extension, query as Visitor/free/paid and verify identical public identity results, independent linked-content gates and no private/draft leakage.

Before this can work

  • Begin on the paid Member Home. Use the Paid member demo role or Casey Bennett in Try a demo account, then select Member in the account/workspace menu if necessary. This creates a genuine local session with a seeded no-charge test membership; it does not upgrade a different account.
  • A curated search index and usable destination pages.
  • The public visibility rules for Visitor search.

No prerequisite story has been confirmed. The setup above describes the content or decisions needed.
