Receive and act on in-app notifications

Start from HomeReview as Paid member
User story
As a paid member, I want to notice an in-app update, find it later in a notification drawer, and open what it refers to without losing my place.
Draft requirements for review · Updated 2026-10-19
What the app should do
- A demo action generates a dismissible toast with an Open action. The bell opens a responsive drawer with unread count and read/unread states; dismissing a toast leaves the item in the drawer. Clicking a toast or drawer item marks it read, closes the drawer, and opens the related native page; browser Back works. Four functional simulated examples cover a followed contributor story, followed place update, joined-group activity, and event preparation reminder. Editorial, place, community, and event preferences control future optional updates. The prototype sends no push or email and uses no live activity service.
- Use the active Paid member role fixture for member-only actions. A free account or a professional identity does not supply paid access. The review identity is a genuine local account; another account’s checkout state stays separate.
- This delivered prototype story retains its toast/drawer/read-state outcome. Dedicated optional category preference editing is planned D105, replacing the profile-wizard dependency; real delivery/inbox persistence is not newly implemented by navigation/profile work.
What to check in the demo
Follow these steps from the role’s landing page through navigation and feature checks.
Begin on the paid Member Home. Use the Paid member demo role or Casey Bennett in Try a demo account, then select Member in the account/workspace menu if necessary. This creates a genuine local session with a seeded no-charge test membership; it does not upgrade a different account.
Navigation from sign-in
- 01Open the fictional Paid member account through the connected sign-in service. Seeded Home review opens directly. Real HOL staff access and protected actions require an authenticator check.
- 02Select the notification bell in the header to open the current notification drawer.
Feature checks start here
Notification drawer
Navigation and feature checks can be reviewed in the current demo.
- 03Check the notification drawer's current activity or empty state, then close it.
- 04To generate sample activity in this demo, use Explore brief → Demo status, then reopen the notification bell and find Try an example. This is a demo helper, not the intended member navigation.
- 05If an example needs setup, use its link to follow the contributor or place, join the group or reserve the event; return to Demo status and reopen the bell. Enable its profile preference if needed.
- 06Generate an enabled example and check its toast; dismiss the toast, then reopen the bell to confirm the unread item remains.
- 07Open a toast or drawer item and check that it becomes read and reaches the related page. Use browser Back to return; check all four example types and optional preferences.
Before this can work
- Begin on the paid Member Home. Use the Paid member demo role or Casey Bennett in Try a demo account, then select Member in the account/workspace menu if necessary. This creates a genuine local session with a seeded no-charge test membership; it does not upgrade a different account.
No prerequisite story has been confirmed. The setup above describes the content or decisions needed.
