This week, Backcountry became easier to review by role, feature and story. The demo now includes distinct role landing pages, sample workspaces, clearer walkthroughs, a role-filtered backlog and a more polished Shop. These are reviewable prototypes; full workflows and access rules still need decisions.

Explore every role’s starting point
Paid member Home is now joined by nine distinct role landing pages and 38 sample workspace routes. Visitors, free-account users, creators, guides, athletes and HOL operators each have a starting experience. The role switcher opens that Home; sample profile, collection, submission, review, arrangement and reporting controls help us discuss what each role needs.

A feature map for each role
Ten role pages now connect personas with 295 role-specific feature entries, permissions and linked stories. Story implementation, feature delivery and stakeholder review are tracked separately. Review is organized around this feature map; the old four-journey and supporting-workflow pages now lead to the role overview. Visitor and free-account proposals were checked against HOL’s source material and existing-site examples.

Stories explain how to review the demo
All 51 backlog cards now open individual story pages with a traditional user story, requirements and review steps. Walkthroughs begin at the selected role’s Home, show the navigation path and mark where feature checks start. The 14 Visitor-linked stories have deeper setup and related-story detail. People and acting roles sit in the story header; partial operator guides identify current sample controls and remaining acceptance.

Find the work that matters to your role
The new User role filter combines with status, proposed launch phase and feature area in both List and Kanban. All four dropdowns use matching controls. Cards link to the same story pages, counts reflect the filtered results and empty results are clear. Filtering the backlog does not change the role being previewed in the app.

Membership and Shop are ready for closer review
Subscribe and Shop → Memberships reach the same plan-selection experience. The Shop has an adjustable cart, review and sample completion, using HOL’s issue, merchandise and gift-card imagery. Print offers are separated from proposed connected digital products; goods gift cards are separate from gift memberships. White cards, aligned product content and product-focused copy make the experience easier to review. Both stories remain In progress.

Review on the devices and site the team uses
The HOL-owned demo now opens at its root address, with staging kept separate. Recent work is available in dev, staging and the HOL demo. The role selector stays visible in mobile portrait, and long names fit the banner. Local and same-Wi-Fi previews were stabilized so rebuilds do not leave the local page unstyled. Weekly review pages keep their own summaries and counts, with direct links between weeks.

Additional work recorded after preparation of this review update and included before Andy closed the weekly record on October 14. The original review snapshot is unchanged.
The demo backlog contains 51 curated stories: 18 ready to review, 13 in progress and 20 planned. Membership, Shop and eight partial role/access stories account for the additional In progress work since the October 7 review snapshot. No new Done status or stakeholder approval was inferred from a sample screen. HOL-D052 is a separate planned classifieds placeholder linked from the role pages, outside these 51 stories.

What comes next?
What should a Visitor, free registered user and paid member each be able to read, save, follow and participate in? The current role experiences let us compare the proposal; they do not settle the free/paid boundary.
Which professional or HOL operator workflow should we deepen next? The role landings and sample workspaces expose gaps, including actor-side stories, shared state, publication outcomes and professional/member entitlement rules.
The community gear-classifieds idea is now recorded as HOL-D052, separate from the HOL-operated Shop. We still need decisions on buyer/seller eligibility, listing review, contact, payment and fulfillment. Gift membership recipient redemption also remains planned.
Use the feature and story pages to identify what is reviewed, what needs changes and what is approved. Implementation status is separate from stakeholder review; no approval is assumed from this update.
Launch phases remain the proposed go-to-market build strategy. The demo can show features from any phase; this review does not approve production scope or pricing.
This is the update prepared for the October 14 review, not a record of the call or its decisions. Links open the current demo; previous weekly issues keep their original summaries and counts. Authentication, access enforcement, analytics, transactions and messaging remain simulated. Supabase and Resend are disconnected.
